INT2 CEO joins Phenikaa University IAB 2025 meeting

INT2 CEO Dr. Nguyen Viet Cuuong, a member of the Industry Advisory Board (IAB) since 2023, participated in the IAB 2025 meeting of the Phenikaa University Faculty of Information Technology, held on January 21, 2026, in Hanoi.

The meeting brought together university leadership, faculty members, and leading experts from major IT and digital transformation companies. The board reviewed and discussed adjustments to training objectives for the 2026-2030 period to ensure alignment with the rapidly changing labour market. Programme directors also reported preliminary results from the ABET international accreditation on-site visit, providing a basis for future programme development.

Chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Anh Son, IAB Chair for Computer Science, and Dr. Nguyen Kim Cuong, IAB Chair for Information Technology, members engaged in in-depth discussions on emerging technology trends and the urgent changes needed in the curriculum to ensure students are well-prepared for the AI era.

INT2 has completed the renewal and restructuring of the UET-HPC system at VNU University of Engineering and Technology (VNU-UET), ensuring continued service for research and teaching while preparing for integration with a new system scheduled to be deployed next year.

The UET-HPC system was first integrated by HPC SYSTEMS Inc. in November 2016 and has been running continuously for nine years. Following the succession of INT2 from HPC SYSTEMS, this upgrade marks INT2’s commitment to maintaining and enhancing the high-performance computing infrastructure that serves the university’s academic community.

The renewed system continues to support research and development across multiple domains, including Big Data Analysis, Bioinformatics, Artificial Intelligence, Materials Science, IC Design, Computer-Aided Engineering, and other large-scale computational tasks essential for the university’s operations.

Looking ahead, the upgraded system is designed to integrate seamlessly with a new HPC system that will be deployed at VNU-UET in the coming year, expanding the university’s computational capabilities for next-generation research and education.

INT2 CEO Dr. Nguyen Viet Cuong was interviewed by the People’s Army Newspaper (Bao Quan Doi Nhan Dan) on opportunities for Vietnam’s semiconductor industry, published on September 24, 2023.

In the article, titled “Golden opportunity for Vietnam’s semiconductor industry”, Dr. Cuong highlighted three key points:

First, Vietnam should not miss the opportunity to attract retiring semiconductor scientists from around the world. He drew a parallel with South Korea, whose semiconductor industry was originally built by retired Japanese experts. “The advantage is that wherever these scientists go, the companies they previously worked for tend to follow,” he noted. He urged the government and universities to create mechanisms to attract these experts, particularly those of Vietnamese origin.

Second, Vietnam holds the world’s second-largest rare earth reserves after China. Dr. Cuong recommended using this as leverage in negotiations with partners requiring these raw materials, by requiring them to build manufacturing facilities in Vietnam as a condition for access. This would create opportunities for training and technology transfer.

Third, drawing from INT2’s own experience in supercomputing, Dr. Cuong illustrated the challenges of technology dependency: while computing hardware can be purchased readily, specialised interconnect equipment must be imported from a limited number of foreign suppliers with lead times of approximately one year.

He also cited China’s example of requiring foreign equipment suppliers to provide source code for security purposes, which enabled the creation of Ruijie Networks, now one of the world’s top four network equipment manufacturers.

INT2 CEO Dr. Nguyen Viet Cuong has been appointed to the Management Board of OpenScience.vn, Vietnam’s national platform for managing and sharing scientific and technological research data, at a signing ceremony held on September 22, 2023, in Ho Chi Minh City.

The ceremony took place during the AI4VN Vietnam AI Day (September 21-22, 2023), where the OpenScience.vn platform was officially announced. The platform, sponsored by the Vingroup Innovation Foundation (VinIF), serves the research and development of artificial intelligence as part of Vietnam’s National AI Strategy 2030.

OpenScience.vn enables the research community to contribute and share datasets, allowing lecturers, students, and researchers in data science and AI to utilise the platform for research, teaching, and training.

At the ceremony, four organisations signed a cooperation agreement to develop the platform:

– National Agency for Science and Technology Information (NASATI), Ministry of Science and Technology – responsible for content development and operational mechanisms.
– Institute of Information Technology (IOIT), Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology – supporting research and technology development.
– FPT Smart Cloud – providing operational support with AI and cloud computing services.
– FISU (Vietnam IT Faculties-Clubs-Schools-Institutes) – promoting the platform to its member institutions.

The signing was witnessed by Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat.

The Management Board of OpenScience.vn was also officially launched, comprising nine members from the signing parties, VinBigData, VNU-IOIT, and INT2. Dr. Cuong represents INT2 as a subsidiary of HPC SYSTEMS (Japan) on the board.

INT2 has completed the installation and integration of the Phenikaa High-Performance Computing system (Phenikaa HPC) for Phenikaa University. The system was officially launched on July 27, 2022.

Phenikaa HPC serves research and development across multiple disciplines at the university, including Artificial Intelligence, Operations Research, Big Data Processing, Computer-Aided Engineering, and Materials Science. The system also supports large-scale computational tasks for teaching, research, and university operations.

The cluster comprises 25 compute nodes plus a management node: 20 CPU-only compute nodes (2 x Intel Xeon Gold 6226R, 32 cores each, 384GB RAM), 4 GPU compute nodes (each with 1 x NVIDIA RTX A5000), and 1 dedicated AI compute node (2 x AMD EPYC 7742, 128 cores, 1TB RAM, 8 x NVIDIA A100 SXM4). Notably, Phenikaa University became the first institution in Vietnam to own an NVIDIA DGX A100 system. All nodes run AlmaLinux 8, with the AI node running DGX OS 5. The system is equipped with a high-speed parallel storage infrastructure for simulation, big data analytics, and AI workloads. The compute fabric uses InfiniBand HDR at 200 Gbps, complemented by a 1 Gbps management network.
